Impromptu Open-Mic Night…

I’ve got a pretty crazy headache… but I want to tell you a story before I try to hit the hay.  I’m not too keen on ‘Open-Mic’ nights anymore.  I used to really enjoy them.  It really matters a LOT who is there.  For example, going to an Open-Mic night alone with no intention of sticking around and listening to anyone else or making friends is no fun.  On the other hand, there is an intimidation factor of being surrounded by tens of other musicians that are there to show everybody else what they can do.  I was never fond of the tension that exists between musicians at Open-Mic nights.

Anyways, with all of that being said, I was asked to attend an open-mic night tonite with by a friend of mine that I haven’t seen in a long time.  He is also a musician (Andy Pappas).  Look him up, he’s a really great songwriter.  Anyways, he invited me out to play some jams tonite at a coffee shop and I graciously accepted.  It was late, so there weren’t really anymore performers except for the woman before me and then myself -that super-multi-musician tension was immediately eased.  I really enjoyed listening to her, too.  She played a piano/vox cover of Desperado that was GREAT!  I was a little scatter-brained because I RARELY go onto a stage without my set pre-meditated. Long story short, I went on, sang some songs, and it was over as fast as it had started.  The ‘festival’ crowd was fun and sang along, and some of the older crowd wasn’t sure what to make of me (typical).  I think only 3 or 4 got up and legitimately left during my set.  It’s a shame because everybody who stuck around got free iPad 2-s!  Jk  🙂  My hope is that everybody that did stick around had a good time.  I know that I did.  That’s not all, though, Andy went up on stage at my request and played two more songs (we’d missed his set earlier).  Needless to say, they were awesome.  Good times, good friends, good music.  Thank you Andy and thank you Meadowlark for having me!  The end. That was my story.  Feel free to post your responses about your favorite parts of the story below.

Here’s a post mini-set pic.  I’m going to bed, now.  The headache is still holding onto me.  Hopefully a little rest will do me well.

Bonne nuit mes chéries!
